
Position Summary
Christ Church Birmingham is seeking a passionate, visionary leader to serve as the Minister of Evangelism. The successful candidate will be a bold and unashamed evangelist who is committed to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and equipping others to do the same. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive evangelism strategy that trains and mobilizes church members and constituents to confidently and effectively share their faith. Through personal example and strategic leadership, this role will help foster a culture of evangelism that reflects the mission of the Global Methodist Church.
Clergy in the Global Methodist Church are encouraged to apply along with applicants who may not be presently affiliated with the Global Methodist Church. If the successful candidate is an ordained elder or deacon in the Global Methodist Church: (1) annual conference leadership will participate in the consultative process; (2) the position title will be Associate Pastor of Evangelism; and (3) the successful candidate will report to the Lead Pastor. If the successful is not ordained in the Global Methodist Church, he or she will report to the Executive Pastor and the position title will be Minister of Evangelism.
Responsibilities
The Minister of Evangelism will develop and oversee a robust evangelism strategy that aligns with the mission of Christ Church Birmingham. This includes creating structured efforts to engage the community with the gospel, establishing pathways for outreach, and building relationships that encourage spiritual conversations. A key focus will be employing a variety of strategies for training and equipping church members to become confident witnesses of Christ in their daily lives.
The successful candidate will lead by example through personal outreach efforts and be actively involved in the community, fostering relationships and participating in events that open doors for faith conversations. They will also plan and lead evangelistic events, including but not limited to outreach initiatives and mission opportunities. In addition, this role will collaborate with church leadership to integrate evangelism into every area of church life, supporting worship, discipleship, and fellowship ministries with an evangelistic focus.
The Minister of Evangelism will serve as a resource and advisor for ministry leaders, ensuring that evangelism remains a central focus of the church’s ministry. They will also build and sustain a team of lay leaders to help carry out the vision for evangelism and maintain momentum for outreach efforts over time. The Minister of Evangelism may also be called upon to assist in some ministries of congregational care.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a committed follower of Jesus Christ who models spiritual maturity, integrity, and humility. They will have a passion for reaching others with the Gospel and empowering others to do the same. The position requires a bachelor’s with preference to candidates who have training or background in theology, ministry, or a related field. A master’s degree or seminary training is preferred. Significant evangelistic experience and evidence of fruitfulness is required for the Minister of Evangelism position.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to communicate the gospel clearly and compellingly, along with experience designing and leading programs that equip others for evangelism. They must have excellent organizational and leadership skills, the ability to work collaboratively with church staff and members, and a heart for building relationships in the community. This individual should also be flexible and creative, capable of adapting evangelism strategies to meet the evolving needs of the church and its mission field.

The Minister of Evangelism position is considered a ministerial role and is expected to perform functions that exercise and express the religious character and mission of Christ Church Birmingham and the Global Methodist Church. As part of this role, the Minister of Evangelism will be required to adhere to Christ Church Birmingham’s statement of faith in lifestyle and conduct and will be expected to regularly engage in activities in which the employee’s belief in and adherence to Christ Church Birmingham’s statement of faith are an integral part.
